Please read these terms carefully before using Research Verifier

Important Disclaimer

Research Verifier is a tool to assist with academic research, but it is NOT a substitute for human judgment and verification. All results, citations, and supporting papers must be independently verified by you. We are not liable for the accuracy, completeness, or suitability of any search results, claims extraction, or recommendations provided by the Service. Always conduct your own thorough research and fact-checking before relying on any information from this platform.

1. Scope of Application

These Terms of Service ("Terms") govern your use of the Research Verifier platform (the "Service") operated by Florian Himmelbauer (Digital Innovation Lab) ("we," "us," "our"), located in 1200 Vienna, Austria.

By accessing or using the Service, you agree to be bound by these Terms. If you disagree with any part of these Terms, you may not access the Service.

Applicable Law: These Terms are governed by Austrian law in accordance with Austrian consumer protection legislation and EU directives, particularly the Austrian Consumer Protection Act (KSchG) and the Distance Selling Act (FAGG).

2. Description of Services

Research Verifier provides the following services:

Text Analysis

AI-powered extraction of factual claims and assertions from academic text

Database Search

Automated searching of academic databases to find supporting evidence

Paper Upload

Upload and manage your own research papers in a private library

Citation Management

Generate properly formatted citations and manage search history

3. User Accounts and Registration

3.1 Account Creation

To access certain features of the Service, you must create an account. You agree to provide accurate, current, and complete information during registration and to update such information to keep it accurate, current, and complete.

3.2 Account Security

You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your account credentials and for all activities that occur under your account. You must immediately notify us of any unauthorized use of your account.

3.3 Age Requirement

You must be at least 16 years of age to use this Service. By using the Service, you represent and warrant that you meet this age requirement.

4. Acceptable Use and Restrictions

4.1 Permitted Use

The Service is intended solely for personal, non-commercial academic research purposes. You may:

  • • Analyze your own academic texts
  • • Upload and manage research papers for personal use
  • • Search academic databases for supporting evidence
  • • Generate citations for academic work

4.2 Prohibited Use

You agree NOT to:

  • ✗Use the Service for commercial purposes without written authorization
  • ✗Upload copyrighted materials you do not have the right to use
  • ✗Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or extract the source code
  • ✗Use automated scripts or bots to access the Service excessively
  • ✗Share your account credentials with others
  • ✗Interfere with or disrupt the Service or servers
  • ✗Violate any applicable laws or regulations

5. Content and Intellectual Property Rights

5.1 Your Content

You retain all ownership rights to the content you upload or submit to the Service ("Your Content"). By uploading Your Content, you grant us a limited, non-exclusive license to:

  • • Store and process Your Content to provide the Service
  • • Analyze Your Content using AI/ML algorithms
  • • Display search results and analysis back to you

This license terminates when you delete Your Content or close your account.

5.2 Our Intellectual Property

The Service, including its software, algorithms, user interface, logos, and documentation, is protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws. You may not copy, modify, distribute, sell, or lease any part of our Service without express written permission.

5.3 Third-Party Content

Search results may include links to third-party academic papers and databases. We do not own or control this third-party content and are not responsible for its accuracy, availability, or copyright status.

6. Pricing and Payment

6.1 Subscription Plans

We offer both free and paid subscription plans. Pricing is displayed on our Pricing page and may be subject to change with 30 days' notice to existing subscribers.

6.2 Payment Terms

Paid subscriptions are billed in advance on a monthly or annual basis. Payment is processed securely through our third-party payment processor (Stripe).

  • • All prices are in Euro (EUR) and include Austrian VAT where applicable
  • • Subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled
  • • No refunds for partial months

6.3 Cancellation

You may cancel your subscription at any time from your account settings. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the current billing period. You will continue to have access to paid features until that time.

7. Right of Withdrawal (Austrian FAGG)

7.1 14-Day Withdrawal Period

As a consumer in Austria or the EU, you have the right to withdraw from your purchase within 14 days without giving any reason, in accordance with the Austrian Distance Selling Act (FAGG).

7.2 Loss of Withdrawal Right for Digital Content

Important: Your right of withdrawal expires if you expressly agree that we begin providing digital content (text analysis, database searches, etc.) before the 14-day period ends, and you acknowledge that you thereby lose your right of withdrawal.

When you subscribe and begin using the Service immediately, we will ask for your express consent to this waiver of the withdrawal right.

8. Disclaimers and Limitations of Liability

8.1 No Warranty on Accuracy

THE SERVICE IS PROVIDED "AS IS" AND "AS AVAILABLE." We make no warranties, express or implied, regarding:

  • •The accuracy, completeness, or reliability of search results, claim extraction, or any content provided by the Service
  • •The suitability of any papers or citations for your specific research needs
  • •The availability or uninterrupted operation of the Service
  • •The absence of errors, viruses, or other harmful components

8.2 User Responsibility

YOU ARE SOLELY RESPONSIBLE FOR:

  • • Verifying all search results and citations before use
  • • Ensuring proper attribution and avoiding plagiarism
  • • Conducting independent research and fact-checking
  • • Complying with academic integrity standards
  • • Checking copyright permissions for any papers you access

8.3 AI Limitations

Our AI-powered features may occasionally produce incorrect, incomplete, or misleading results. AI technology has inherent limitations and should be used as a research aid, not as a sole source of truth. Always apply critical thinking and expert judgment.

9. Limitation of Liability

9.1 Liability Under Austrian Law

Our liability is governed by Austrian law:

  • •Unlimited liability: We are fully liable for damages caused by intent (Vorsatz) or gross negligence (grobe Fahrlässigkeit)
  • •Limited liability: For slight negligence (leichte Fahrlässigkeit), we are only liable for breach of essential contractual obligations, limited to foreseeable, typical damages
  • •Personal injury: Liability for personal injury remains unlimited regardless of fault level

9.2 Indirect Damages

To the extent permitted by Austrian law, we are not liable for indirect or consequential damages, including but not limited to loss of data, loss of profits, academic penalties, or damages resulting from reliance on inaccurate search results.

9.3 Maximum Liability

Where liability is limited, our maximum aggregate liability for any claims arising from or related to the Service shall not exceed the amount you paid us in the 12 months prior to the event giving rise to liability.

10. Service Availability and Maintenance

We strive to maintain high availability of the Service but cannot guarantee uninterrupted access. The Service may be unavailable due to:

  • • Scheduled maintenance (we will provide advance notice when possible)
  • • Emergency maintenance or security updates
  • • Third-party service provider outages
  • • Force majeure events

We are not liable for any loss or inconvenience caused by Service unavailability.

11. Termination

11.1 Termination by You

You may terminate your account at any time by contacting us or using account settings. Upon termination, your access to paid features will continue until the end of your billing period.

11.2 Termination by Us

We may suspend or terminate your account immediately if:

  • • You violate these Terms
  • • You engage in fraudulent or illegal activity
  • • Your account has been inactive for 3+ years
  • • Required by law or court order

11.3 Effect of Termination

Upon termination, you will lose access to your account and all associated data. We may delete your uploaded papers and search history after a grace period. Download any data you wish to keep before terminating.

12. Changes to These Terms

We reserve the right to modify these Terms at any time. We will notify you of material changes by:

  • • Posting the updated Terms on this page with a new "Last updated" date
  • • Sending an email notification to your registered address
  • • Displaying a prominent notice on the Service

Continued use of the Service after changes become effective constitutes acceptance of the new Terms. If you do not agree to the changes, you must stop using the Service and may terminate your account.

13. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

Applicable Law: These Terms are governed by the laws of Austria, excluding the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG).

Jurisdiction: For consumers, the place of jurisdiction is determined according to the statutory provisions of Austrian consumer protection law. For merchants, the exclusive place of jurisdiction is Vienna, Austria.

EU Online Dispute Resolution: The European Commission provides a platform for online dispute resolution at: https://ec.europa.eu/consumers/odr

14. Severability

If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable under applicable law, such provision shall be modified to reflect the parties' intention or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary. The remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
